Be like Dominic!

Our Holy Father Saint Dominic de Guzman

Today we celebrate one of the most prominent people in the Catholic Church, Our Holy Father Saint Dominic de Guzman. Actually, some may know him as an eloquent guy, perfect in preaching, champion in abolishing the heretics, and the promoter of Mary's Rosary.

Yes, these are the things that one remembers in Saint Dominic, but we may not know how he went to become these things. Some may even think that he is a rich priest who formed an order just to follow his steps. But that is not the real course of the story.

He came from a very rich family but he didn't grow up boasting his riches, instead he gave everything he could give for the poor and sick of his time. He was so eloquent in preaching, but it was not much of his intellect, rather, it was because of his intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus. His life as a religious was a life of intense prayer, self-mortification, and study.

Indeed, he was found favorable to God and before His people. His mission as the light of the Church became well-appreciated not only by his followers (some became saints their own way), but by the Holy Mother Church.

Dominic's life serves as our call to action, especially now as we face a period of struggle as a nation. His example is a challenge for us; it is not so easy to live holy, as we need to face many hardships and trials, but we know that the Lord is with us, guiding us through it all.

As we fight for the defense of life, let us be brave and bold like Dominic, facing the errors and correcting them in the eternal light of God's word.

As we lend a hand for those who suffer from the flood and rain, let us be generous and humble like Dominic, who spared almost nothing for himself so that everyone may be filled with what they need.

Above all, as we ask the Lord for protection from the ongoing disasters, let us be intimate like Dominic, who did not curse anyone, but rather praised the Lord in everything he had.

Finally, let us ask the intercession of this great priest and preacher, that through our undertakings as a reflection blog, we could always be humble and willing to be of-service to the Church who is always sanctified by the Word of God, joyfully preached by our Holy Father, Saint Dominic de Guzman.
